Talking Rocks Cavern (initially called Fairy Cave) is a natural hollow cavern framework situated in Stone County, only minutes west of Reeds Spring, Missouri. The Herschend Family Entertainment privately owns it as a tourist attraction and it is located near Silver Dollar City.
Since the early 1920’s cave exploration was one of the first forms of tourism here in the Ozarks. It is still one of the most exciting adventures to be experienced even today. Talking Rocks Cavern is the perfect destination for kids of all ages to experience the fun of playing explorer and adventurer. This incredible wonder of nature, once called “Missouri’s Most Beautiful Cave” provides a different tempo from that of the usual shows and roller coasters. Talking Rocks Cavern and its beautiful landscape of glistening crystals provide the backdrop for an incredible adventure that will result in lifelong memories for the whole family.
Guided tours are given often and in regular interims. The guests are shown down a progression of stages and steps to the floor of the cave. There are 265 steps, 150 down and 115 out. Highlights incorporate ‘curtain’ and the ‘bacon’ formations. The visit to this cave also incorporates a light and sound show.
The base of the cave routinely surges amid substantial downpours. Water seeps in from the surface level and the cave acts as a drainage system which empties into the river below. There is a gift shop at the mouth of the cavern and it a great place to shop for children. A full tour of Talking Rocks Cavern can take usually 4 hours and 35 minutes with activities that include: The Speleo lab and boxes, Panning for gem stones, and a moderately short hike.
